Like most kids, I changed my mind many times, with ambitions ranging from being a lawyer to becoming a teacher. But my mama suggested a different career path. She knew I loved reading and sharing information with others. (I got in trouble for telling my elementary school friends where babies came from.) And she knew I was good at writing and public speaking. So when she talked to me about exploring journalism, I knew it was the perfect fit. I could serve my community by telling important stories.
After graduating from Florida A&M University, I spent a decade as a broadcast journalist, producing and writing stories for local, national, and international audiences. I loved it, but deep down I yearned for something more. I wanted to connect with people and know beyond a shadow of a doubt that what I was doing was making a difference. That’s why after an unexpected layoff from TV news, and a push from a friend, I shifted to nonprofit marketing and communications. I knew my skills as a storyteller and communicator could help them connect with the community, raise money and ultimately advance their missions.
I spent the next decade of my career leading communications at several amazing nonprofits. We tackled big challenges ranging from K-12 education and homelessness to racial health disparities and poverty. After seeing the incredible impact these groups were making, I knew I wanted to help even more of them — and other mission-driven organizations — succeed. So in 2024, I officially launched ROmarketable. Yes, the “RO” represents my initials, but it also speaks to our brand promise of Remarkable Outcomes.
Now that little girl whose family taught her the importance of service is blessed to be able to do that every day. She partners with incredible organizations to help make the world a better place, one story at a time.
